The prickly pear is linked in the collective imagination to Sicily. Symbol of strength and color of the Island because the fruit comes from a wild plant that often unirrigated, survives a thousand bad weather conditions. Here it is used as a valuable food for the beginning of the farmer’s workday, especially during the harvest season; throughout the island from San Cono to the slopes of Mount Etna, from the Nisseno area to the Agrigento area, it is in fact traditional to consume prickly pears during breakfast.
