The candelore are tall carved wooden columns,with a gilded surface, that reflect the Sicilian Baroque style and hold a large votive wax – made of wax or plastic – for St. Agatha.
They are adorned with flags, flowers, wreaths and precious designs that pay homage to the patron saint.
Nowadays there are 12 of them: each one represents a guild of the city’s arts and crafts and, because of their imposing weight, during the Agatine celebrations they are carried on the shoulders of a group of worshippers who advance them with a particular gait (a’ nnacata ra cannelora).
