The jasmine plant comes from the Middle East and, according to legend, arrived in Italy thanks to Cosimo de' Medici, who wanted the plant in his majestic garden. He was so jealous of the white-flowered, fragrant plant that he forbade anyone to take away even a small sprig of it; one day, however, a young gardener decided to give a sprig to his fiancée, who planted it in her garden where the plant grew luxuriantly. The couple began selling sprigs of it to everyone who was impressed by its fragrance and beauty, so they made their fortune and the jasmine slowly spread to gardens all over Italy.
