The Prickly Pear is a symbol of warmth and strength: the fruit comes from an often unirrigated plant that survives a thousand bad weather conditions.
It was considered a valuable food for the farmer, especially at harvest time: according to an ancient custom, the vineyard owner would give these fruits to the grape pickers to prevent them from eating the grapes during harvest.
